Dear XXXX,
I thought you might be interested in a great organization I've been involved with. The Citizens League is a non-profit civic organization whose goal is to create "common ground for the common good" by involving regular citizens in non-partisan politics and policy making throughout Minnesota.
They're in a membership drive right now (each new member gets the organization closer to 2,000 and a $15,000 challenge grant from the Pohlad Foundation). I'm a member, and I thought you might be interested in joining.
Here are some of the reasons I'm a member:- Attend fun events (there are a few coming up that you might be interested in - details below)
- Meet and network with people of all ages and interests
- Learn about important public policy issues that affect by receiving a monthly subscription to the Minnesota Journal
- Have the opportunity to serve on various operations committees and policy working groups
- Support the Citizens League's nonpartisan policy work
Here are two very different events they're hosting. Coming to one might be a good way to get a sense of what the organization is like and meet some other people who are involved. I'll be there -- would you be interested in attending either of these with me?

Regional Policy Workshop Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the U of M St. Paul Campus 8:00 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. This will be a fast-paced, interactive workshop to address four cutting-edge policy topics that could make or break the future health of the Twin Cities metro area, depending on how we respond as a region. ($25 for members, $75 for nonmembers) Policy and a Pint: Election Night PartyThe UBS Forum at Minnesota Public Radio, downtown St. Paul Evening (exact time TBA) 89.3 The Current and the Citizens League host the Policy and a Pint series. Most events feature a couple speakers and DJ Steve Seel, who host an informal conversation on a particular policy topic in an area bar. This night, though, we'll just be hanging out and watching the results come in from Minnesota and around the country. ($10; $5 for students with valid ID; refreshments included) |
Like I said, events are a great way to learn about the Citizens League, and I'd love to go to one of these with you.
And, if you want to become a member, you can join online at www.citizensleague.org/join or call them at 651-293-0575. You can join with any contribution.
Thanks!
XXXX
