Apply now to become a Humphrey Institute Policy Fellow

This fall, approximately 30 individuals representing a variety of personal and professional backgrounds will be accepted from across Minnesota to participate in the Policy Fellows program for emerging leaders at the Humphrey Institute Policy Forum. The Policy Forum, co-directed by former Minnesota Congressmen Tim Penny and Vin Weber, is part of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. The Policy Forum organizes public conferences and leadership development activities related to current public policy issues.

During their nine months in this part-time, non-credit program, Policy Fellows participate in conferences, private seminars and discussions with speakers, a four-day trip to Washington, D.C. (contingent on funding), and a group project. The goal is for Fellows to develop an understanding of complex public policy issues and acquire skills that will assist them as they move into public affairs leadership positions.

The program year will not be limited to a single theme or topic.

Applicants may be nominated or may self-apply. The program description and application materials are available on-line at www.hhh.umn.edu/centers/policy-forum. Complete applications must be postmarked by June 5, 2006.

For more information, please contact Ellen Tveit at etveit@hhh.umn.edu or 612-625-8330.

Minnesota Mental Health Action Group work continues to have an impact...

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota recently announced that it is increasing payments to psychiatrists by 20%/year for the next three years. This issue was identified by the Minnesota Mental Health Action Group, which was convened by the Citizens League, as a contributor to the shortage of psychiatrists in Minnesota, and as an important priority to improving mental health delivery in Minnesota.
