Active Citizenship and Civic Leadership Course
The Citizens League is working with Civics Connection to launch a course teaching a values-based leadership model to help individuals develop their capacity to address public challenges. Adhering to the Citizens League's philosophy that policy happens everywhere, this program will teach leadership skills relevant in all sectors: private, public, and nonprofit.
This course will connect theory and practice -- the goal is for participants to come out of the program with real skills that are helpful in getting civic work done. We anticipate that this will be a three-month-long course, culminating in the creation of an individual civic leadership plan. To provide support and accountability, we hope to have a robust alumni group that would facilitate the creation of a deep, self-sustaining civic organizing program.
Topics to be covered include: navigating politics and understanding power, facilitation and consensus building, building civic leadership in self and others, and the personal dimension to leadership.
This course is projected to start date in 2009.
